Concept Work

Early  concepts from my concept art class. The tale of the white stag, drastically changed to suit my needs. I was calling her Starbuck for a while, before I discovered the buck was a male.... derp.
I got the idea from a character I drew while sitting in Starbucks obviously. Yep.

RED; or I'm Not Afraid of The Big Bad Wolf.

The following are pieces from my Year 12 Major Art Project. I basically ended up with about a month or two to work on these because my supplies never came. I didn't mind too much, I think I was too busy having fun and not working on my English Extension 2 Major work...
Such is life.

The piece was called: "RED or I'm not afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" and was essentially my own visual interpretation of the classic fairytales all tied together by the colour red. It was basically a chance to showcase my water painting skills and make something beautiful.

Some pieces were dominated by the colour red and others only contained faint traces of the colour.
The way they were presented was really rushed but the pictures themselves aren't so bad.

And so in no particular order here are my favourite 5 of the 9 paintings:

 Beauty is a Bleeding Heart
[This photo is cropped, but I dipped a cardboard heart in red ink and then stuck it to the painting letting it drip down the page.]

 No Evil
[Hear No, Speak No, See No... Another unfortunately cropped photo, I used watercolour pencils for this one, and red thread to sew up an ear, eyes and mouth of the girls.
Not exactly a fairytale but I just really wanted to make this picture.]

Little Red
[The first piece in my collection. Also cropped and with an unfortunate hair on her chin.
This one got a bit eaten by silverfish while I was gone and so the paints a bit... uh, missing, in places.]

 Snow White
[Snow White. Also eaten by silverfish. The trickle of blood coming out of her mouth was originally a smudge! She then reminded me of a vampire though...]

The Big Bad Wolf
[I've never really been very good at drawing animals so I was super proud of my wolf. I used a lot of references for him and he came out great. This one got cropped a bit too, so you can't see his scary giant tongue!]

The other four pieces were Rapunzel, Gerda, One of the Pretty Maids in Mary's Garden, and the girl from the tale of the Red Shoes. That was a great one, I painted a girl dancing and her dress was drenched in blood, and then I painted the bottom of Kesselle's feet red and had her walk over the painting.

I feel that one day I will go back to this project and expand on it. At least I hope so. The ground ideas are good, it could be great.

P.S. I see a fair bit of improvement from these to my work today.

My first custom doll!

We had a blackout today that lasted for a couple of hours. And so I wasn't able to do any Uni work for that time, instead I decided that it was finally time to try my hand at doing a custom repaint of one of my Monster High Dolls.

I decided to go with my Dead Tired Ghoulia doll. Since she was the cheapest and I thought I could make something amazing from her.

Since I didn't have the internet I was flying blind so to speak. I removed her face with my nail polish remover (acetone) I then washed said face because acetone melts plastic, or so my childhood taught me.
(Also a fun fact going around the repainting tutorials is that if you soak a barbies head in acetone over night it will shrink several sizes.)

Anyway, I'd been dressing Ghoulia as a Snow Witch for a while so I figured that's what I'd repaint her as.

I also decided to sculpt some deer horns for her so she could be more shaman-y and also made myself a pair, as that was a DIY I was supposed to do before Halloween.

I lost all of my good small brushes in the flood which is a bit of a shame because they were expensive, so I only had super cheap $2 store brushes to work with, and it shows which sucks. I also don't have many colours in my acrylic paints; Black, White, Dark Brown, Golden Brown, Red, Bright Green, and Silver. Woo-hoo. But since Ghoulia is a grey-based doll I figured I could manage.

But enough excuses here are le photos:

I forgot to take a proper before shot. But here she is with one eye. Also the paint wouldn't come completely out of her lips even though I was using cotton tips for the paint removal.

Here she is without any paint. It's easy to see how you could easily paint them with eyes open or shut.

By this stage I've painted a lot. I mixed up a pink and dry-brushed it over her knuckles, toes, elbows, nose, cheeks, etc, since she's a snow witch I see her being pink with cold.
(also painted tiny nipples)

Added basic shaman markings in white in various patterns, will refine later.

Added the face details, took me a long time to get the her left eyebrow even with her right, but I got there.
Please note that by this time about half the hairs have ripped out of my smallest brush and were falling everywhere. Not easy to work with. Trust me.

Used a bamboo skewer to add tiny dots all over her and fix the highlights on her lips/nose and her eyelashes.
You can see the silver paint I dry-brushed over her. It kind of failed and I hate it so...

Anyway, with that all done and the power back on I got back to uni work while my fimo deer horns baked. And then cooled to room temperature, then I took a break to watch Once Upon a Time and paint the horns.

With the horns painted and dried I set about attaching them to her head, I basically just tied them on with thread and secured them with her own hair, but they're still a bit finicky. Also the paint needs to be fixed but she looks good enough for now.
Also converted my old Myscene doll scarf into a white fur skirt for her. Hope she likes it.

Here are some photos of the finished product. Which will also be appearing on my deviantart.

Sweet dreams lovelies....

Hipster Dress Ups

Playing a super cute Hipster Dress Up Game and it's reminded me to finish mine in the next couple of weeks so I can put it in my portfolio.

Here's what I came up with as my Hipster Avatar:

Cute no?

However, realistically I currently look more like this:

Yeah, Polkadots are my not so secret love.
I say this one is more realistic because I have those shoes, and blue tips on my hair, even if it is longer.

Aaaannnnddd I made a Kesselle one, since she has that exact jacket, those jeans and dem boots:
LOOKS JUST LIKE HER!!!
(I'd show you photographic evidence but she'd kill me!)

Anyway, I'm off the bed for another gruelling sleep full of riddles and nightmares. See you in the distant future!!
